With the SIGNARIS office building in Frankfurt am Main, the Next Estate Income Fund (NEIF) of BNP Paribas is participating in the pilot phase of development of an environmental ‘green’ certification for existing buildings. SIGNARIS has been certified by the German Society for Sustainable Building (DGNB), becoming the first-ever existing building in Germany to win this certificate. DGNB handed over the silver certificate to VERIANOS team responsible for SIGNARIS.

VERIANOS Managing Partner Jost-Albrecht Nies said: “While it is becoming normal to only consider new buildings already known to be sustainable, the topic of standing

stock has largely been untapped. That is why we, as local asset manager of the German NEIF sub-portfolio, have recommended supporting the pilot phase of the inventory certification and thereby to help progress the development of transparency in sustainable building quality in Germany.”

SIGNARIS, located in Frankfurt’s banking district, offers around 14,000 sqm of leasable area and is held in the Next Estate Income Fund, a vehicle launched and managed by BNP Paribas Real Estate Investment Management. The Fund invests in sustainable properties across Europe and is aimed at institutional investors. VERIANOS Germany, as the regional asset manager, steers the German portfolio. Hamburg-based adviser atmosgrad ° accompanied the certification process as auditor.
